Client Support - SiteTools (imanager)

OVERVIEW

SiteTools (imanager) is a suite of Virtual Server Administrative and User tools (control panel) that make it extremely easy to access, add, and maintain Email and FTP accounts, set spam filtering preferences as well as check mail and upload/download files on your Virtual Server using a standard Web Browser. SiteTools recognizes a User's access level based on login and limits the User to files and/or tasks based on the permissions the Server Administrator has assigned to them. Each page within SiteTools has complete instructions as to how to accomplish the various tasks.

Directions for Use:

AshtonITC Basic, Corporate & Enterprise Virtual Server Accounts:

Administrators of AshtonITC Basic, Corporate and Enterprise Private Virtual Servers using SiteTools can add, delete and modify email and ftp User accounts, including assigning passwords, quotas and directories. In addition, they can setup email 'Alias' and 'Virtmap' files for forwarding and redirecting email as well as create a 'Spammers' file to have their Virtual Mail Server ignore mail from anyone (or any domain) they choose. They can also upload/download and maintain all files and folders on their Virtual Server.

Tools and Wizards

Administrators will use the Tools and Wizards link from the initial SiteTools screen to administer their Virtual Servers.

Users (email and/or ftp accounts) that have been setup on these Virtual Servers can use SiteTools to access their own e-mail accounts to change their password, read, send, delete or save messages through any web browser (web-based email). If SpamAssassin has been installed on the private virtual server then Users can even edit their spam filters and customize their threshold. They can also use their web browser to maintain files within their assigned directories on the Server including uploading from a local hard drive if ftp privileges have been assigned by the Server Administrator.

Please note that even though Web-based email and file management is possible with a web browser using SiteTools, it is still possible to access these accounts through traditional email & FTP clients if desired.

AshtonITC Shared Server Accounts:

The Shared Server Webmaster is given email and FTP access by AshtonITC when the account is setup and can use SiteTools to access their own e-mail account to change their password, read, send, delete or save messages through any web browser (web-based email). If SpamAssassin has been installed on the private virtual server then Users can even edit their spam filters and customize their threshold. They can also use their web browser to maintain files on their Shared Server including uploading from a local hard drive. Additional Email accounts (within the limit assigned) can be added or deleted by sending a request to support@ashtonitc.com showing the account name, actual name and initial password desired.

Shared Server Email Accounts are setup by AshtonITC and these Users can use SiteTools to access their own e-mail accounts to change their password, read, send, delete or save messages  through any web browser (web-based email). They have no FTP or other privileges.

Please note that even though Web-based email and file management is possible with a web browser using SiteTools, it is still possible to access these accounts through traditional email & FTP clients if desired.

ACCESSING SiteTools

SiteTools is accessed on your AshtonITC Basic, Corporate or Enterprise Virtual Server by using the following URLs:

http://www.yourdomain.com/SiteTools
                    -or-
http://www.yourdomain.com/imanager

(where yourdomain is replaced by your actual domain name.)

SiteTools is accessed on Shared Server Accounts by using the following URLs:

http://www.hostdomain.com/SiteTools
                      -or-
http:// www.hostdomain/imanager

(where hostdomain is replaced by the host domain name supplied by AshtonITC when your Shared Server was ordered.

If you don't know your Shared Server's Host domain, please ask support@ashtonitc.com to supply you with this information. Be sure to tell us what your domain name is.

You will be prompted for your logon information and granted access based on your account. Please note that the URL is case sensitive (i.e. note the mixed case of SiteTools). You will probably want to save this URL as a favorite in your web browser.

If you've forgotten your logon information (Server Root Logon and Password), send a request to support@ashtonitc.com  with Server Logon Info Request in the subject line, or call us at 888.843.6643 with your request.

E-MAIL TIPS

In addition to User email accounts, the Alias and Virtmaps file effect the routing of mail. These files are only available to Virtual Server Administrators (Basic, Corporate and Enterprise Servers). Changes to these files for Shared Server users must be made by the AshtonITC support staff.

Alias files allow mail to be re-routed to a different and/or multiple accounts. For example if you wanted mail sent to info@yourdomain.com to be routed to a User account on your Virtual Server called john@yourdomain.com you would setup the following alias using the tools provided in SiteTools:

E-mail Alias Alias Definition
info john

Suppose you wanted mail sent to info to not only go to John but also to your own America Online account: Your alias file would look similar to this:

E-mail Alias Alias Definition
info john,myaccount@aol.com

note the comma separating accounts in the alias definition.

In either case above an account for info@ does not need to be setup on the server since mail will never reach that account (it is being forwarded somewhere else). Of course by the same token an account for john would need to be setup on the Server.

Virtmap files are similar to alias files but are used primarily for sub-hosted accounts. With virtmaps it is possible to have several webmaster@adomain.com email accounts on one Server but with each one actually mapped to a unique email account. Unless you are sub-hosting other domains on your virtual server you will not normally use Virtmaps.

FTP TIPS

FTP accounts are a great way to allow people the ability to upload/download information on the Virtual Server. Since Server Administrators leasing the Basic, Corporate or Enterprise Server can set both the permissions (which folders the User has access to) and a quota, you have control of not only who has access, but how much they can upload to the Server and where.

You can setup a common FTP area if you wanted that all of your employees or clients could use for file transfers as an example. It is many times more efficient to move files by FTP than to use email attachments.

Sometimes you may want to hire the services of a web design company or programmer and just give them access to the website portion of the server. You can easily do this by setting up a User account with FTP access only and as soon as their work is completed delete their User account for security.
